Battling the Darkside of Third-Party Penetrations

The ominous forces of darkness always lurk in the mundane and seemingly harmless places of our lives, then all of a sudden... BOOM! This reality is perfectly depicted in the "Lord of the Rings" sequel, “The Two Towers". The scene picks up with Théoden, King of Rohan, deciding to take his people to Helm's Deep for safety, that impenetrable fortress that was capable of stopping the advancing forces of Saruman. It seemed like those massive walls of Helm's Deep would hold; however, Saruman’s Orcs discovered a small weakness in the fortress (a culvert), which let a stream of water flow under the fortress walls. The scene ends with Saruman's Orcs using an explosive device to blast open the culvert, allowing the fortress to be breached.

So it is with the tile industry; we build these incredible waterproofed structures, only to have our systems breached by a small, seemingly insignificant device - penetrating anchors. Not only do these devices void waterproofing, but they also work poorly. Consumers are all too familiar with accessory mounting failures: baskets, hooks, and grab bars loosening and/or pulling away from the wall. Whether it's a traditional tile shower, steam shower, or integrated wet room, accessories should provide users with convenience, safety, and health for a lifetime. Unfortunately, for decades, residential, senior living, medical, and hospitality properties have been compromised by hollow-wall anchors, mollies, and toggles (all penetrating anchors) with disappointing results.

Whether these anchors are plastic or metal, they have historically proven to be unreliable and risky. In all cases, they void waterproofing warranties while allowing an access point for water intrusion into the interior wall cavity (the space where insulation, plumbing, and electrical components are housed). When water leaks into the interior wall cavity, mold and bacteria grow in these stale air spaces. Additionally, penetrating anchors negate the manufacturer’s waterproofing warranty, saddling property owners with expensive repairs and health risks.

TileWare eliminates these problems! We push back against the dark forces of toxic mold and water damage. For the last 15 years, we have provided reliable tile-specific performance. Our waterproof wall anchors offer the lowest installed and lifetime cost. As with all valuable technology, it requires forethought. The industry must engage property owners in a healthy (no pun intended) pre-planning conversation around waterproofing and device performance, because they go hand in hand. It seems counterintuitive to sell waterproofing products, knowing that third parties will penetrate and void their intention. These are the precise concerns that have amplified waterproofing vulnerabilities for decades. Thankfully, TileWare has the technology answer!

Our Solution - Mounting failures and waterproofing compromises are now a thing of the past, thanks to TileWare's PermaTile™ Waterproof Wall Anchoring Technology. Our anchors were designed exclusively to work seamlessly with tile industry products and standards. Our anchors eliminate waterproofing failures by closing the loop on unwarranted penetrations that cause accessories to loosen or pull away, while microorganisms grow undetected. The tile industry hangs its hat on precise waterproofing methods (A118.10). Now it’s time to connect a turnkey solution so ADA grab bars, seating, shower doors, and other lifestyle accessories can perform without compromising industry systems. Over the last 15 years, TileWare has delivered 194,000 problem-free waterproof mounts. We accomplish this by combining our stainless-steel anchors with substrates, waterproofing, thinset, and tile, which work together to create a monolithic wall structure... like rebar in cement. By blending these materials into a single system, we transfer the mechanical load across the entire tile wall (TCNA tested).
